Facebook has sent out invitations to an event on June 20 at which a "big idea" it has been working on will be revealed ? but what it could be is anyone's guess.
The social network earlier this week added "hashtags" to statuses and comments, allowing users to add clickable tags like #TGIF or #NBAfinals to their posts. But Facebook also noted that hashtags were only the first in "a series of features" it would roll out over time, with perhaps more coming next Thursday.
No hint was given as to the nature of the new product in the paper invites sent by mail, but a few snippets of code spied by a developer on Thursday suggested Facebook might be attempting an RSS-related product ? and announcing it now would be timely, considering the imminent shutdown of Google Reader on July 1.
Whatever it is, we'll know more this coming Thursday. Check back then for details.
