WASHINGTON (CBSDC) - Thursday is the final day for baseball fans to vote the final selection into the 2013 MLB All-Star Game, but the game has changed, and voting has now been opened up to Twitter with tweets containing designated hashtags counting toward the final tally.

Last week, ballots for the 34th spot on both the American League and National League All-Star rosters were whittled down to five finalists, with each of the final ten players having designated hashtags to eventually account for tweets on the final day of voting.

By 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Ian Desmond of the Nationals still trailed Atlanta?s Freddie Freeman, LA?s Yasiel Puig, and San Fran?s Hunter Pence for the final roster spot on the NL team, and his second All-Star selection in as many years.

Fans now have until 4 p.m. on Thursday to cast AS MANY votes for #DesiIn13 (or other candidates) as they desire.

This means any tweet containing #DesiIn13 counts as a vote for Desmond, with no cap being instituted. This includes tweets, retweets and reply messages tweeted at other Twitter users.

Here in the nation?s capital, oft-regarded as a tech-savvy, flourishing metropolis , Nats fans have expressed creativity to garner as much additional attention as possible. Some strategies have included force-feeding the message, seeking celebrity and political endorsements, and even joining forces with other fanbases.

In short, feel free to get creative. After all, what else is Twitter for?
