Foot, diabetic foot care recommended | Revista Women's Health

The diabetic foot is a complication that develops a percentage of people with diabetes mellitus. Is defined as infection, ulceration or destruction of deep tissues associated with neurological and varying degrees of peripheral vascular disease in the lower extremities.

In other words, people with this disease manage high levels of glucose (sugar) circulating in the blood, which can lead to destroy nerves and blood vessels. (This is the reason why sensitivity is lost)

The prevention and?foot?care are key factors for the treatment of diabetic foot. Here are some of the care that must be considered.

  4. Avoid the use of elastic stockings or socks that can hinder blood circulation.

Choosing the right footwear is an important part in the treatment of diabetic?foot, along with hygiene and care described above.

For the proper use of footwear is recommended:

  1. Always used socks. Avoiding use socks or stockings with elastic that can block blood flow to the lower extremities.
  2. Do not wear sandals like ?crow?s foot? or other to leave the bare foot.
  3. The shoe should be preferably leather, lightweight and non-slip sole.

  9. It is recommended that you do buy shoes in the afternoon which is when the?foot?is more swollen.
  10. Avoid the use of high heels and narrow tip.

In conclusion we can say that prevention is the most effective in treating diabetic foot.

It is vital to maintain optimal levels of blood glucose, physical activity, eating a balanced diet, and use appropriate footwear.

Also do not forget the periodic review of our?foot?to the doctor if you notice any type of abrasion, discoloration, blister or wound, go immediately to the doctor.
