The All Blacks hosted South Africa in the Rugby Championship Test from Dunedin.
FULLTIME: All Blacks 21 - Springboks 11
A 14th straight win, and 23rd straight at home, for McCaw's men.? The perfect performance still eludes them but they won't care.? A win is a win against a limited but committed Bok team who just lacked finishing finesse and had a collective off night for the boot.
McCaw was inspirational in the second half for the All Blacks.? Nonu also stepped up and Dagg and Read were prominent.
So it's off to Argentina in a fortnight for the All Blacks where there are no easy games.? The Boks host the Wallabies in a fortnight in what shapes as a battle for runner up.? That's all from a humming Forsyth Barr Stadium.? Goodnight!
FULLTIME: All Blacks 21 - Springboks 11
Cruden denies the Boks a bonus point on fulltime after they infringed on the All Blacks line.? Final score 21-11, an historic first win for the All Blacks at Forsyth Barr, but the Boks will rue a raft of missed opportunities.
77min: All Blacks 18 - Springboks 11
What is going on!? On his own goal line Keven Mealamu throws it straight to a South African line out jumper and incredibly he fumbles it with the goal line wide open in front of him!
75min: All Blacks 18 - Springboks 11
Ma'a Nonu has made a timely return to form tonight and his bust in midfield puts the All Blacks deep into Bok territory.? The Boks are penalised for incorrectly tied shoelaces at the ruck and Cruden restores the seven-point buffer from right in front.
69min: All Blacks 15 - Springboks 11
George Clancy wants to be man of the match, he awards two ruck penalties against the All Blacks in two minutes.? The Boks are onto their third kicker in reserve halfback Johan Goosen.? His first attempt?is short from 60m out, his second is good from 50m on the angle.? That brings the Boks' collective kicking stats to 2 from 9 for the night, with a missed drop goal into the mix.
67min: All Blacks 15 - Springboks 8
The Boks are losing the plot here and tensions are boiling over, they looked so good 15mins ago.? Replays don't look good for Greyling, he'll miss some rugby, an appalling piece of play.? The Boks are penalised again at ruck time but Cruden misses from wide right at a distance of about 30m.? I forgot to mention Keven Mealamu has come on for Andrew Hore.
64min: All Blacks 15 - Springboks 8
Replacement Dean Greyling gets ten minutes in the bin for a shocking piece of foul play, driving his elbow into the chin of Richie McCaw at ruck time.? A really unsavouriy moment and the All Blacks look hungry against 14 men now.
60min: All Blacks 15 - Springboks 8
TRY! Aaron Smith the home town hero strikes!? He may have missed a tackle in the lead up to Habana's try but he more than makes amends here by darting through a half-gap in the ruck on the Boks' 22 and confidently wrong-footing Zane Kirchner to send the South Stand at Forsyth Barr into raptures.? Cruden converts.? All Blacks starting to exert a bit more control here.
52min: All Blacks 8 - Springboks 8
Aaron Cruden strokes through a penalty after the Springboks are penalised for hands in the ruck.? The All Blacks have a fight on their hands here though - as the old cliche goes, the longer the Boks stay close, the more they'll believe.
48min: All Blacks 5 - Springboks 8
TRY! From an attacking lineout, winger Bryan Habana busts through a flimsy Aaron Smith tackle and then chips Julian Savea for a brilliant individual try. Reminiscent of Ricky Januarie in this very city four years ago. Steyn can't convert.
41min: All Blacks 5 - Springboks 3
No surprise to see Aaron Smith on at halftime for Piri Weepu.? The Boks have their best attacking period of the game to date but the All Blacks defence holds and forces a knock on.
A nice moment at halftime as ten of our Olympic heroes, including gold medallists Mahe Drysdale, Nathan Cohen and Hamish Bond are paraded on the field.? Steve Hansen won't be paying that much mind: for the fourth time in four matches he'll be deeply unsatisfied with the All Blacks' first half performance.
HALFTIME: All Blacks 5 - Springboks 3
The All Blacks are lucky to be leading, given the Springboks' profligacy with the boot - they've kicked just one penalty from six and the score could be 18-5.? It's been a disjointed half with the All Blacks occasionally threatening but still committing too many errors on attack.? Dagg and Read have been New Zealand's best while it has to be said Weepu has looked really off the pace and it would be no surprise to see Aaron Smith introduced shortly after the break
40min: All Blacks 5 - Springboks 3
Morne Steyn misses again!? Incredible, another kickable penalty after the All Blacks infringed at line out time on the stroke of halftime.
33min: All Blacks 5 - Springboks 3
Crowd showing their displeasure now as the All Blacks are pinged for not rolling away at rucktime.? But incredibly Steyn misses again!? A very kickable one from 30m on a slight angle. This is classic Springbok rugby - kicking accurately, tackling hard and rumbling it up in the forwards and waiting for the inevitable penalty.
31min: All Blacks 5 - Springboks 3
Piri Weepu is caught dawdling again and coughs up attacking ball for the third time.? The All Blacks are attacking at all costs but too often finding forwards out in the backline.? This time they're penalised for obstruction. Frans Steyn attempts a 60m penalty but it's just short.? Not surprising to see the Boks' kicking at every opportunity; they've offered very little with ball in hand.
24min: All Blacks 5?- Springboks 3
Clancy pings the All Blacks again at the breakdown and Steyn is wide to the right this time from 45m out in front.? The All Blacks go short at the dropout and Kieran Read, who's been immense again, drives into a crunching tackle and the penalty lottery goes the All Blacks' way this time.? Back onto attack.
20min All Blacks 5 - Springboks 3
TRY ALL BLACKS!? That is sensational rugby.? From the kickoff the All Blacks attack down the right.? Sam Whitelock draws two defenders and offloads to Kieran Read, who is outnumbered but simply refuses to die with the ball and flicks a beautiful offload to a trailing Israel Dagg who scoots the last 25 metres.? Exactly what the game needed and good reward for the All Blacks' attacking endeavour.? Cruden's conversion from the touchline is no good.
18min: Springboks 3 - All Blacks 0
Why does the IRB insist on having Northern Hemisphere refs in charge of Southern Hemisphere games?? George Clancy pings the All Blacks for some arbitrary ruck infringment - possibly not rolling away - and Steyn knocks it over from 35m in front.
15min: All Blacks 0 - Springboks 0
Some hard tackling from the Boks as we've come to expect and there's no way through for the ABs so far.? That said, Israel Dagg injects himself at first receiver and finds half a gap, and from the next phase Richie McCaw throws the first no-look pass of his 110-Test career but it doesn't go to hand.? Defensive scrum to the Boks and they win a penalty.? "Horse s***!" yells a radio journalist to my right.
9mins: All Blacks 0 - Springboks 0
Conrad Smith is penalised for not releasing in the tackle after the All Blacks run it from a scrum on their own 22.? Morne Steyn's angled penalty?attempt from 45m drifts away to the left.? Neither side settling into the work yet.
4mins: All Blacks?0 - Springboks 0
Bryan Habana bombs a certain try in the corner!? From a ruck on halfway Piri Weepu's inattention allows the Boks to steal it and break down the left.? They sweep it to the right and there's a huge overlap - but the pass is slightly behind Habana and he spills it with the goalline beckoning.
1min: All Blacks 0 - Springboks 0
The Springboks win the kick off and immediately hoist it high - no surprises there - but it's well claimed by Cory Jane and the All Blacks have the first attacking chance of the Test.
1935: Perhaps surprisingly, the All Blacks opt for the traditional Ka Mate haka.??The crowd respond by stamping their feet in the?temporary seating.? Game on!
1928: Stat time before we get ready for kickoff.? The All Blacks have won their last 22 home Tests, and 57 of their last 60 dating back to June 2003: a remarkable 95% success rate.? Two of those three losses, however, have come against the old foes: at Carisbrook in 2008 and Hamilton in 2009 - the last time the All Blacks lost at home.
Teams making their way onto the field now.
1924: This is the fifth Test to be played at the new indoor stadium - England, Argentina, Georgia, Romania, Ireland and Italy all played here during the World Cup - but the first involving the All Blacks.? Already there's barely an empty seat in the house, with all 29,000 tickets long since snapped up.
There's been much talk about the noise factor the roof brings into the game.? While we probably won't experience the extraordinary din generated by the Irish and Italian fans tonight, it will be a huge lift to the home team - although there's the potential to disrupt lineout calls too.
1918: The beauty of the roof comes into play before the Test has even started.? At the moment it's being used for a remarkable acrobatics display from performers attached tenuously to various parts of it.
It's been a largely incident-free build up to the Test, with the huge mutual respect between the two teams and sets of fans evident throughout.? I spoke to a number of Springbok fans in town this morning who were extremely gracious and had only nice things to say about this occasionally-chilly part of the world.? We'll see what they're saying in a couple of hours.
1915: A quick word on the weather conditions: it's currently cold and drizzling.? Or at least it would be if we didn't have a roof.? So to paraphrase the legendary South African Tony Grieg: "that's all bloody useless information that won't make a rat's a** of difference to the outcome of this match".
Much has been made of the conditions perfectly suiting the All Blacks running game, but they'll have to get through the Boks first and they have plenty to prove here tonight.? I suspect this is going to be a closer game than many would have you think.? The Boks are seldom humbled, home or away.
Pre-match
Good evening and welcome to Dunedin's Forsyth Barr Stadium for tonight's Four Nations Test between the All Blacks and Springboks. It goes without saying there's plenty riding on this Test.
The Boks are as good as gone for 2012 if they lose here; while the All Blacks will have a hand and four fingers on the trophy if they can win tonight.
A few personnel changes from last week to tell you about. The All Blacks have promoted Andrew Hore, Sam Whitelock and Liam Messam from the bench in place of Keven Mealamu, Brodie Retallick and Victor Vito. Aaron Smith is benched for disciplinary reasons, giving Piri Weepu his first start of the season, while Tamati Ellison replaces fellow Highlander Ben Smith in the reserves.
Two changes to the Springboks side that were surprisingly beaten in Perth last week; with Flip van der Merwe replacing the suspended Eben Etzebeth at lock while Francois Louw replaces Marcell Coetzee at blindside.
