Greensboro weighing legal action against Duke Energy over tree cutting

After tree triming by Duke Energy Corp. caused a deluge of complaints in Greensboro, the city is weighing whether to take legal action against the company, the News & Record reports.

Residents in the Lindley Park, Sunset Hills, Southside and Westerwood neighborhoods have complained that trees are being hacked down, rather than trimmed. On Tuesday, the city council asked City Attorney Mujeeb Shah-Khan to look into what action it can take against Duke (NYSE: DUK).

The council asked Duke last week to take a three-month hiatus from tree trimming in the city.

A Duke representative said the company has a responsibility to make sure power lines are clear of tree limbs.
