Robot barber shaves human head for charity

1 day

Bad hair days for Tim (the guy in the video below), for the moment, are a thing of the past. A robot shaved his head. Now he has little hair to speak of (or a really bad haircut).

The robot barber is a Multi-Arm Unmanned Ground Vehicle from Intelligent Automation. Its three arms, three cameras, and 29 degrees of freedom give "remote operators the ability to perform complex manipulation tasks with relative ease," according to the company.

That means the guy controlling the robot is able to shave Tim's head without knocking off his nifty safety goggles and gouging an eyeball with the clippers.?

If we decide that getting buzz cuts from robots is one automation task too many, the robot will likely find plenty of other work doing things like inspecting suspicious packages, wielding tools, breaking down doors, tying knots and disposing of IEDs, Intelligent Automation notes.?

As for Tim, he wants you to know that he bravely sat in the robot's barber seat to raise funds for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, which searches for cures to childhood cancers. You can also become a shavee with an old-fashioned barber.
